Suicide Squad Review - This movie is wicked good. ๐Ÿ’ฃ

๐ŸƒGenre :- Action/Fantasy/Crime

๐Ÿ’ฟRun Time :- 2 hrs 5 mins

๐ŸŽฌDirector:- David Ayer

๐Ÿ“œPlot :- A bunch of nasty DC villains are assembled together by a honcho named Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) because an even nastier super villain has decided to end the world.

Suicide Squad is the long gestating DC Comics film that every single fan has been waiting for. And i won't lie, the movie isn't perfect, but it sure as hell doesn't deserve the backlash that it has been receiving lately.

Followed by controversies like casting of Jared Leto as the Joker to the rumoured reshoots, this film has been on most minds since it was announced.

So here comes the question...
How does it hold up ? ๐Ÿค”

Well, let's start off with the not so good part.
▶ There is a clear intention on building up these characters over building the film. The introduction of EACH character consumes about half the time before the interval. Say about a good 25-30 mins of a 125 mins movie.

▶ It is heavy on the characters and extremely light on plot and a villain. This is cool at first but once you realize most of the important plot points are in the trailers, it becomes a bit disappointing that there isn't a smartass villain to protest against, just anti-heroes to rally behind. I am serious! What they serve you is just another posturing villain with indefinite plans for world domination via a big, swirling mass of CGI.

▶ The ending is actually rushed, predictable, and i think they could have done better after building up the story of the final fight scene.
By many standard traditions, this is a film very close to The Dirty Dozen.

Less satisfying?
Have i lowered your spirits already? Chill. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Make way for ALL the goods :

➡ The Soundtrack is breathtaking.
'Heathens', 'Sucker for pain' are my absolute favorites. ❤

▶Through 'Heathens', Twenty-one Pilots warn us about our anti-heroes over the haunting chorus. ๐Ÿ˜

▶'Sucker For Pain' is a shady rock-meets-hip-hop number that hears Imagine Dragons swaying chorus sandwiched between Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa's swaggering verses full of bad boy charm.

▶'Gangsta' by Kehlani is for all you girls who are gonna show up as Harley Quinn this Halloween.

The greatness in the film sits on many shoulders.

➡ The one major thing the film has going for itself is the visual palette – everything looks really cool in the film.

➡The dialogue writing is perfect. No amount of dialogue is wasted nor any simple movement is wasted.

➡ The humour content is bang on. Dull or shoddy at some places, but overall good enough to leave you chuckling. *Grins*

➡ The best part of DC movies is that  it gives its female characters equal importance as the male ones. Unlike other.... If you know what i mean. *Scoffs*

➡Performances n Characterization :-
The film is good but the performances are great. There is a true chemistry between the squad that is palpable and David Ayer deserves high praise for that. It is not about what is going on, it is about what is going on inside these character's minds that really pushes the movie forward. It is a casting done in heaven.

๐Ÿ’จ Jared Leto as The Joker is probably the most interesting part of the film. Leto does not even try to top Ledger or Nicholson, he simply does his own thing. He's devilishly charming but extremely psychotic. I compare him mostly to Mark Hammil's Joker from the animated series.

Leto’s has a smooth, blingy gangsta swagger; a modern take on the Joker bracket set by Ledger. It is unlike anything we've seen before so, for that, kudos.
Also, it’s not his style and elegance that really hooks you, it’s something we’ve never seen before :
The Joker in love. ❤
And the chemistry is beautiful, trust me.
Leto is in it for merely 20 minutes which is a bit disappointing considering his performance is absolutely mesmerizing and i wanted to see more of him doing Ha! Ha! Ha!

➡Moving on to the rest of the Squad,
๐Ÿ’จ Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is exceptional. She delivers a performance that is straight out of 'Girl, Interrupted'. She is extremely unpredictable on screen and it is a pure delight watching her relish in exactly what makes Harley Quinn memorable : Her sultry psychotic demeanor.

๐Ÿ’จ Will Smith as Deadshot is just Will Smith. There is no real boundary breaking performance here. He is the lead actor of the film and the film plays out like such. Not saying that Deadshot isn't a cool, badass character but it is just Will Smith in costume. You gettin' me?

๐Ÿ’จ Jay Hernandez as the fiery El Diablo is a nice surprise, his character made us feel for him, maybe even more-so than the top stars. Also, his Gangsta way of talking is top notch.

๐Ÿ’จ Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc is so compelling. As as actor he doesn't just act, he becomes that character.
And yes;
Killer Croc, You are beautiful!
(You'll have to see the movie to get this. *Winks*)

๐Ÿ’จ Adam Beach as Slipknot is in a forgettable role.

๐Ÿ’จ Jai Courtney as Boomerang is slappy but that's what is required of him. Also his skills aren't put to the best use.

๐Ÿ’จ Viola Davis as Amanda Wallar is perfectly casted and she nails it as the strict leader.

๐Ÿ’จ Karen Fukuhara as a sword wielding ninja named Katana, is good.

๐Ÿ’จ Then there is Cara Develigne as the evil Enchantress, who looks worlds away from her supermodel status as she cuts an unglamorous figure, playing lonely alter-ego June Moone. And mahn, she is good.

๐Ÿ’จ Joel kinnaman as Rick Flag does an awesome job playing the hardcore soldier, fighting to revive his love from the hands of the evil.

While much of the spoilers have been spoiled long ago, there are still a couple things that will bring smiles to your faces.
Ahem... You figure it out.

⚡๐Ÿ

It seems like DC has a long way to go in terms of churning out great comic book films like the Batman Trilogy and Suicide Squad is most certainly a great start.

Well, it may not lift the hype as in the greatness in the trailer but i think it's still a must see summer movie this season, and you should enjoy it without all the overly negative critics.

So, overall...
Does it break new ground? No.
Is it badass? Absolutely.
Is it fun? Oh hell, yes.
Should you see it? Ahh! Without a doubt.

And for all those naysayers,
I would have asked you all to...
You know 'Suck it up' but I'd rather ask y'all to just keep singing this to yourself and you'll be just fine :

"All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse."
Cheers.

Ratings :- 3.3/5 ❤
