Dishoom - Delivers An Impressive Punch. ๐Ÿ‘Š❤

๐ŸŽญGenre :- Action-Comedy/Buddy Cop

Runtime :- 2 hrs 4 mins.

๐Ÿ‘”Cast :- John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandes, Akshay Khanna, Saqib Qureshi and Rahul Dev.
Akshay Kumar and Nargis Fakhri in a cameo.

✍Plot :- When India's top batsman goes missing in the Middle East, two cops from either side of the Arabian Sea team up for a 36 hour manhunt.

Talking about the direction, Rohit Dhawan did a decent job. The 'Desi Boyz' director managed to pull off some beautiful scenes.
Although the storyline is quite predictable and clichรฉd, the engaging narrative, coupled with rich visuals and high octane action, humour, work in favour of the film. Add to this the star power of John Abraham and Varun Dhawan, which will definitely attract the youth.
Also, the chemistry between the actors, especially during the comic scenes make for an entertaining watch. The movie no doubt has all the style, swagger and glamour, but it would have been a better bet had the director paid a little more attention towards the script.

๐Ÿ‘€Cinematography and Editing :- The Cinematography is neat and vibrant. Also the glitz of UAE makes it more appealing. The Editing could've been better, since i found few sequences unnecessary. Like the one chase sequence with Rahul Dev.

๐ŸŽถMusic :- The music crisp, fitting well with the vibe of the film. It begins with the title track 'Toh Dishoom'. Sung by Shahid Mallya with ample use of Raftaar's rapping, the song's highlight are its lyrics. The right use of bass and Punjabi tadka give this one a distinct touch. With 'Sau Tarah Ke', the composer falls back in his 'Afghan Jalebi' mode. The Arabic lyrics lend an exotic flavour. 'Jaaneman aah' is crowd pleasing.

✔ Some High's :-
▶John Abraham and Varun Dhawan’s bromance. Their chemistry is very much a reminder of our Dhoom jodi, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.
(See - Comparing Varun to Uday ? She mad or what? Chill. I am comparing the chemistry between both the actors, and not their individual talents. ๐Ÿ˜‚)

▶Fancy FJ Cruisers, speed boats and drone based action sequences are enough for enthusiasts. Also, shot in Abu Dhabi, the swanky locales of middle east are impressive.

▶The humour quotient is high and it promises to keep you entertained till the very end. There are some silly one liners but they still make you chuckle.

▶The surprise cameo by Akshay Kumar is applaud worthy. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘€

✖ Some Low's :-
▶Of course, there are stupid scenes such as John’s character getting off a plane with a lit cigarette. Well, there’s a reason you don’t smoke near the planes. Don’t want to blow up yourself, do you? ๐Ÿ˜‘
Also, it is plain annoying to show someone throwing smoke on someone else's face.

▶Also, what's with the name VIRAJ SHARMA?
Like Virat + Yuvraj + Rohit Sharma. Seriously? Duhh!

▶Rohit Dhawan’s Dishoom tries hard to be a Rush Hour - esque buddy cop film but thanks to its clichรฉs, comes hardly any close.

▶While the focus remains on John and Varun, the writers fail to establish the antagonists character much.

Performances :-
➡ John Abraham as Kabir maintains his steely 'Rocky Handsome' persona  and after a while, his character and acting starts to bore the hell out of you. But he is still passable as the no nonsense guy because who would want to see him try anything near comedy after 'Welcome Back' or 'Housefull 2' ? Certainly not me. Thank god for his hot body, he is still appealing. ๐Ÿ˜❤

➡ Its unfortunate that Varun Dhawan has nothing new to offer. After 'Main Tera Hero', 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania', his character as Junaid is once again the chirpy chocolate boy like. Nonetheless, he is extremely likable and instantly grabs your attention in the film with his comic timing and cute looks. With the natural, cocky charm of a young Will Smith - a fact alluded to when Dishoom references Men In Blackwith its heroes calling themselves K and J -- Dhawan is spontaneous and funny but, most importantly, sincere.
He is the main highlight of the movie. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜˜

➡ Jacqueline Fernandez as Ishika lives up to the expectations once again and proved that she has nothing to do with acting at all. Of course, her sexy moves in Sau Tarah Ke make-up for most of that missing acting.

➡ Akshay Khanna in spite of being a good actor and the antagonist in the film, gets limited screen time. But he plays the evil bookie Wagha, with ease.

➡ Akshay Kumar gives one hell of a cameo in this film. And those 5-7 minutes are downright hilarious. ๐Ÿ˜‚
He adds the bun in 'man-bun'.
 *Whistles* ๐Ÿ˜‰

➡ Saqib Saleem Qureshi as Viraj, obviously knows how to hit full-tosses all over the place. Saleem is a fine performer and the cricketing bits seem as authentic as they need to be.

➡ Then there is a pug named 'Bradman' which reminds us of 'Frank' from 'Men in Black'.

➡ Satish Kaushik as Mr. Qureshi is excellent and funny. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The idea of his character is impressive.

➡ Parineeti Chopra’s item number is already popular and ends the film with much glitz and glamour.

➡ Nargis Fakhri? *Ignores*
(You really want me to even add anything more? ๐Ÿ˜‚)

❤ The film’s best parts are Dhawan asking a helicopter pilot to pull over 'side mein,', Satish Kaushik trolling people on the phone and Varun Dhawan saying, "If the characters in 'Lagaan' would've had a 'Weather App', it would've been easier for them to track rains and would've saved a lot of their energy spent on singing songs." And John's reply to this is hilarious. ❤๐Ÿ˜‚

▶A special mention to the film's stunt directors for shooting some breath taking action scenes in the film.◀

It's a complete Bollywood masala entertainer. Light on script, heavy on entertainment. At any point it doesn't hobble or hurt your brain. ๐Ÿ˜‰
All in all, it delivers a decent Dishooom! ๐Ÿ‘ŠUp

Ratings - 3.2/5 ❤

Lights Out - The Horror will consume you. ๐Ÿ‘ป

๐ŸŽญ Genre :- Horror

๐Ÿ•ฆ Runtime :- 1 hr 20 mins

When things go bump in the night and the amount of light is limited at best, your imagination plays tricks on you.
Often we perceive the worst thing lurking in the shadows, waiting to wrap its tendrils, claws, or whatever appendage around your body and finish you off. This movie makes sure you feel the same, the following night.

My personal suggestion to you guys, would be to go alone. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ“œ Plot :- When her little brother, Martin, experiences the same events that once tested her sanity, Rebecca works to unlock the truth behind the terror, which brings her face to face with an entity that has an attachment to their mother, Sophie.

PS - I am going to integrate my take on the Editing, Cinematography, Background score, Performances, etc for this film, instead of writing it down separately.

Ghost stories are done to death. It is very difficult to come out with anything scary that is original. It turns out Lights Out is one of the biggest surprises of the year. Is it still filled with jump scares? Absolutely. ๐Ÿ˜‰
But these types of scares are not of the cheap variety. ๐Ÿ˜ป

๐ŸŽฅ Direction :- What's most impressive is how debuting writer/director David F. Sandberg is able to repeat essentially the same scare over and over, but keeping each one fresh, exciting, and inventive. Save for many that have been spoiled in the advertising, it's the many more that haven't been shown that are the cream of the soup.

๐Ÿ˜ฑ Lights Out got me to scream out loud on more than one occasion, something The Conjuring 2 was unable to do. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Ironically, Lights Out is produced by James Wan (director of The Conjuring franchise) and Sanberg outdoes him again and again, both in legit scares and intensity, a perfect amount of humor sprinkled throughout that isn't cringe inducing, and a visual style all his own that is at times flat out dazzling. Even if the film hadn't been as successful as it is, the technical aspects are flawless. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Still, there are some flaws to be found. ๐Ÿ‘ป It's increasingly evident that the frightening set pieces were at the forefront of importance when the script was being written, with the character and story depth taking a back seat.
๐Ÿ‘ป Though we do end up caring for these characters, it's mostly through their convincing performances rather than the writing itself.
๐Ÿ‘ป The origin story to the antagonist Diana feels rushed and a bit confused. We understand that something 'very bad happened' to her, and that there was some kind of accident. But unless I was zoning out, we don't get enough explanation as to what exactly happened and who she was, or why she turned out the way she did beyond the bare-minimum. There is a slight resemblance to Babadook, but not in a the thematic way.

The horror, the thrills were so good, i wanted it to last lil longer. But nevermind, it was worth all the hype. ๐Ÿ‘พ

But the best is certainly saved for last. The final sequence is where the goods come and where the film raises itself up on onto another level. Take my word, it's absolutely relentless in its building intensity and some light humour ( only in the first half. ) ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ‘

The use of lighting is also tops, as the vicious monster can never appear in light, the different sources of light- from a lit candle, ๐Ÿ•ฏ a fluorescent black light, head lights, flashlights, even gun shots- are all used ingeniously. ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ•ฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ซ
The same goes for the darkness, as every time a light bulb flickers, ๐Ÿ’กor we are suddenly thrown into pitch black darkness, all one can do is hold their breath and grip their chair. As you know some bad news is about to go down. It really dives into that primal, childhood fear of the dark and may conjure up a few bad memories or two. I can't express it enough, the finale is worth the price. ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ•ฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ซ

Background score is FLAWLESSLY TERRIFYING. The sound of the antagonist screeching her nails on the wooden flooring, scares your soul. ๐Ÿ‘ป

The performances are power-packed.
๐Ÿ’จ Special mention to Teresa Palmer (Rebecca) as the older sister. Her edginess, sincerity, and attitude all mixed well to craft a character that was easy to latch onto and root for.
๐Ÿ’จ Also, Gabriel Bateman (Martin) as the young boy is a treat for the eyes with his smirks and expressions. ๐Ÿ˜‰
๐Ÿ’จ Maria Bello (Sophie) as the old mother, is convincing.

Comparing it to any other Horror releases this year, Lights Out is pure popcorn munching horror fun. Ridiculously entertaining, gorgeously executed, and just a great time at the theater.

Madaari - Irrfan will blow your mind with yet another terrific performance. ❤

With his last noticeable outing being 'Drishyam' in 2015, Nishikant Kamat is back to stun the audience with his new offering, Madaari.

๐ŸŽญ Genre :- Satirical Thriller

๐Ÿ•ฆ Runtime :- 2 hr 15 mins

๐Ÿ“œ Plot - Irrfan is Nirmal Kumar, a mundane middle-class man. He describes himself as ‘the ideal voter’ because he is so entangled in ‘roti, kapda aur makan’ that he never pays attention to the mess outside. Also, he is a single parent. Everything seems fine, until one day his happiness is torn apart by a mishap in which he loses his only son. This leaves him traumatized and he sets out on a revenge spree against the political system, to unveil the dark side of corruption in an 'Eye for an Eye' style.

๐Ÿ’ก It seems like Nishikant Kamat has a special affinity to kids being a huge part of his movies. His previous two outings had emotional trips with the kids along with the protagonists of his movies.

๐Ÿ’ก Madaari is a Hawk and a Chick tale, wherein the chick aka common man fights against the hawk of a corrupt system — the politicians, bureaucrats and administration. It is, yet another new age vigilante genre of films that expresses the frustration and disbelief deep-seated in the middle-class Indian psyche.

๐Ÿ’ก While the backdrop of the film bears striking resemblance to Neeraj Pandey’s 'A Wednesday', 'Madaari' has an emotional journey attached to it apart form the critical take on the political system. The director, however, manages to enclose beautifully the father-son relationship throughout the film.

๐Ÿ’ก The plot twist aren't that effective but passable.

๐Ÿ”ฆ✨ Editing / Cinematography :-
The movie could've easily been shortened down by 15-20 mins. Special mention to the cinematographer Avinash Arun's who repeatedly lifts the film above the mundane, giving us grandeur without seeking to overwhelm or overshadow the people in his frames. It is particularly worth mentioning the way the camera dwells on Khan's beautiful face without seeming star-struck.

๐ŸŽถMusic :- The song, Dama Dam Dam, with Vishal Dadlani behind the mic is powerful. His gruffy voice and husky tone work well to create a satirical effect. Lyricist Irshad Kamil deserves an applause for the use of sharp metaphors.
The line, "Anpadh baittha shiksha baate (The uneducated are handling education),” is a smart snide thrown at our Censor Board panelists. ๐Ÿ˜‚
I am shocked how did the Censor Board geniuses didn't notice that. ๐Ÿ”จ๐Ÿ˜‚

The film does have a certain loopholes.
๐Ÿ‘“ How the hell did Irrfan manage to get a WiFi connection in deep Rajasthan’s deserts.
๐Ÿ‘“ How did he shift his place abruptly while he is calling the ministry from the bus.
These stuck out like a sore thumb. ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ’ฅ Performances :-

๐Ÿ’จ Well, if the surname Khan has become synonymous with superstardom in the Bollywood, then the name Irrfan should be officially recognised as an adjective for quality acting. This Khan makes Madaari what it is. And his presence in contemporary cinema, makes this world a better place to live in. Irrfan Khan delivers an affectingly tender performance in Madaari.
Khan invests himself so thoroughly in Nirmal Kumar that he compels us to invest in the man. The master actor’s scenes as a grieving father will leave you moist-eyed.

๐Ÿ’จ The movie is also a blank canvas for Jimmy Shergill, another superb actor, who carries the role of a disciplined cop with such ease, that you just can’t take your eyes off him

๐Ÿ’จ Vishesh Bansal as the Home minister's son, does a great job, going from an aggressive captive to softening towards his kidnapper is soothing to watch.

๐Ÿ’จ The film’s supporting cast — Tushar playing the helpless father, Nitish Pandey playing the boisterous news show anchor did justice to their roles.

Irrfan is an absolute master of his craft, and 'Madaari' proves it. The movie is a great watch for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž❤

Sultan - Salman ups his game as an actor. ❤๐Ÿ˜

Genre :- Drama / Romance / Sports

Runtime :- 2 hrs 50 mins.

Plot :- Sultan is the story of a wrestler who quits the sport after a personal tragedy, but returns to it for the very reason he left.

There is something about Salman Khan. Either you love him for his charm, screen presence or bold attitude or you hate him due to his controversial remarks or brush with law but you cannot deny the fact that he is one superstar whose stardom and films are not impacted at the box office. ๐Ÿ˜❤ Even the morning shows were housefull at 8 AM everywhere for "Sultan". Quite sums it up.

Now let me tell you whether it lived upto its hype.

Khoon mein tere mitti
Mitti mein tera khoon.
Khoon mein tere mitti
Mitti mein tera khoon.

Upar Allah, niche dharti
Beech mein tera junoon
Aye Sultan! ☺

These are guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings.
Be it our patriotic pride, our soft spot for the underdog. (Just in the film obviously. ๐Ÿ˜œ)

Let me tell you this is not just another Salman Khan film where he is overemphasized. Infact, it is that uncommon film wherein the female counterpart is given an equivalent role, or even more. And also, the supporting cast get enough light to shine.
(Read : Anant Sharma as Govind is great.)

Some highlights from the movie.

❤ This movie isn't about looking upon women as an object of ridicule when they don't forgive their partner of the wrongdoings unblinkingly. Infact, here the whole thing is about the man seeking forgiveness from his women throughout, instead of being like "Galti toh sabse hoti hai".
Uncommon isnt it ?

❤ Where every other movie these days make the religion of the protagonist, a socio-political point to either depict tensions or spread a message of communal amity, this here is a film where both central characters are Muslims, they have many Hindu associates and friends, yet after a point one barely notices.

❤ The most beautiful thing about 'Sultan' is that he is actually shown wrestling in the film. There are enough wrestle sequences in the movie that makes this movie what it is. Unlike "Brothers".

❤ Sultan has an emotional core that is hard to resist. Writer-director Ali Abbas Zafar is clever in the way he uses his actors, the innate poignancy of his story and Vishal-Shekhar's songs to create a moving whole. Even when Jag ghoomeya is abruptly and awkwardly inserted into the narrative, the tune and words do not lose their appeal.

❤ Some lines are clearly populist, but spry enough to make you crack up. Whether it is the discomfort of a desi munda to understand and speak 'English' or some facts about 'Asli Jats', they break you in chuckles.

❤ Unexpectedly, Sultan has some interesting feminist elements that do not come across as being put-on to impress.

❤ A special mention to Salman Khan here.
Whatever be his acting weaknesses, he is clearly not insecure. This is a star who has the confidence to share screen space with far superior performers – Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Kick, Siddiqui in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Anushka Sharma and the wonderful supporting cast here in Sultan. And that, is commendable.

❤ Here you will encounter stereotypical Bollywood romance coupled with song-dance routine and light humor to keep you enlightened. Boy sees girl. He falls in love. He tries to woo the girl. And after few songs, the girl agrees. ๐Ÿ‘…
But that's passable, after all the movie isn't about their love story but about 'Sultan's' last shot at redemption.

Editing and Narration :- The editing could have been a bit better and the songs could have been trimmed down. I found '440 volt' to be unnecessary. But none of this would have worked though if it were not for the manner in which the narrative is stirring when you are least expecting it. ☺๐Ÿ‘

Music :- I loved the folk song "Tuk Tuk" and the tuneful "Jag Ghoomeya" while others were ordinary. "Baby ko bass pasand hai is fine too.

Background score by Julius Packiam deserves special mention. Cinematography by Arthur Zurawski is good and crisp capturing the beautiful locales of rural India.

Performance :-

๐Ÿ’จ It is Salman Khan all the way. Salman Khan is Sultan and Sultan is Salman Khan. I cannot imagine anyone else playing the character of "Sultan" and that is where Salman proved his mettle. The actor deep dives into the character as if it was tailor-made for him and gives his best.
There are some scenes wherein he struggles to get expressions on his face.
Despite his acting limitations and the manner in which he swallows many of the dialogues here, it is to his credit that he appears to have submitted to his director in this film, that there is more to his performance than the remarkable work he has put into building his body to suit the role of a wrestler, and Zafar has managed to get the best that any director has got out of him so far. Thumbs up !

๐Ÿ’จ Anushka Sharma as Aarfa, is clearly living every moment. Be it her accent, her delivery or just her pretty face; this girl has got everything in her that deserves an applause.

๐Ÿ’จ Amit Sadh plays it nicely as the owner of an Indian pro-Mixed Martial Arts team.

๐Ÿ’จ Randeep Hooda as the trainer, who keeps chomping on food items, and who will, we know, help slap our out-of-shape, overweight wrestler into shape, reminds me of Mary kom's trainer or Clint Eastwood of 'Million Dollar Baby'. Hooda will blow your mind with impeccable performance.

๐Ÿ’จ The new face Anant Sharma, who plays Sultan's best friend, does the Haryanvi accent to a T. I look forward to see him in future movies. He is fresh with a good timing. In his words, ''Kar Di Chadayi". (U will know the meaning of this after seeing the movie. ๐Ÿ‘€)

๐Ÿ’จ Mishra who plays Anushka's father does a fine job as well.

Here is an excerpt from the stories of our Censor Board's sillyness. The Censors got the producers of Sultan to cut out the words "Pant mein” (in your pants) and replace them with "Paas mein". ''Apni mardani ko apni pant mein daba kar rakho'', was the actual dialogue. *Sic*

๐Ÿ’ All in all, Sultan is a deeply satisfying movie that makes you understand the importance of Hope and Relationships. This is the perfect eidi from Salman Khan. Highly Recommended ! ๐Ÿ’

Eid Mubarak ! ❤

The Legend Of Tarzan - What A Beauty ! ๐Ÿ˜ป

๐ŸŽญ Genre :- Adventure

Runtime :- 1 hr 50 mins

๐Ÿ“œ Plot - Legend of Tarzan begins eight years after Tarzan and Jane have left Africa to undertake a gentrified life in London, where Tarzan has claimed his birthright of John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke. He is drawn back to his former home in the jungle to investigate and expose a slavery ring in the Congo by Journalist George Washington Williams.

* They finally portrayed the Tarzan character more like Burroughs wrote him! *
๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™Œ❤

What made this a real treat was how original it felt. Sure, we've seen a lot of Tarzan movies but this one is different. It's something the other filmmakers haven't tried before, and I give director David Yates and the screenwriters Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer a lot of credit for creativity. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Yates is the first to do it. His 'Legend of Tarzan' stands head and shoulders above the Tarzan movies that came before it and regardless of how it fares in the crowded theatrical marketplace, it is assured of a place in cinema history as the evocative Tarzan movie that captured the heart and spirit of Edgar Burroughs' creation. ๐Ÿ˜ป

I am really surprised at the mediocre reviews so far of this film. For me, its sheer entertainment and NOT BORING at all. ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿ”Ž Editing :- The editing by Mark Day is tight and slick. Not a moment is wasted and the story drives forward with energy and commitment. The story moves along briskly, and the plot is very effective.
It made me crave for more.

๐Ÿ’ก Cinematography :- Henry Braham's cinematography is cool and brooding in London, and lush and earthy in Africa. The cinematic beauty of the film is astounding

๐ŸŽถ Music :- The music by Rupert Gregson Williams is both emotional and pulse-quickening.

๐Ÿ”ฎ CGI - The panoramic views of the jungle are Beautiful. Dark, foreboding and deadly as it should be. ๐Ÿ˜❤ Although the CGI seems cheesy in a scene or two and struggles to balance tone at times, trust me its magical in majority of the scenes. I sat through the movie mesmerized.

๐Ÿ˜Ž Performances :-
๐Ÿ’จ Alexander Skarsgard's hot bod does more of the talking than his character. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But he manages to do a good Tarzan despite of the fewer lines endowed upon him. The love Tarzan feels for his ape mother is passed on to the movie viewer to be felt, not just seen.

๐Ÿ’จ Margot Robbie portrays the feistiest Jane you've ever seen. She is everything Jane should be. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ’จ Samuel L. Jackson's humorous sidekick to Tarzan worked seamlessly. He added the much needed humour quotient in the film. Expect the same charmingly brash Samuel here. Skarsgard and Jackson together were marvelous to watch and their scenes together snapped and sparked.

๐Ÿ’จ Christoph Waltz was exactly what I needed out of a Tarzan villain and he plays the antagonist so well, you would want to punch him right in the face whenever he is on screen. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜

The whole cast is solid, and I really liked the historical setting concerning the Belgium King Leopold and his exploitation of the Congo.

๐Ÿ’ญ When it gets right down to it, don't listen to the critics on this one. Your enjoyment of The Legend of Tarzan all relies on how much you enjoy the idea of Tarzan in general. ๐Ÿ’ญ

❤The Legend Of Tarzan is a fitting representation of real heroism driven by love, dedication, and absolute resolve❤

Is the movie perfect? Probably not, but it comes so damn close that I don't care. ๐Ÿ’

GO AND WATCH IT !
